Corning Community College baseball player Travis Rosenwinkel has accepted a scholarship offer to attend Niagara University in the Fall of 2012 and play for the Purple Eagles. Niagara University is a member of the MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) and participates against schools such as Siena, Canisius and Marist. The Purple Eagles plan on using Rosenwinkel as a catcher, a position he just converted to this Fall.
Rosenwinkel played shortstop and right field for the Red Barons in his freshman campaign as well as being utilized as an infielder for the Elmira Pioneers during the summer of 2011. This Fall, CCC Head Baseball Coach Dan Cevette, who was an assistant at Niagara University prior to taking over the CCC program, asked Rosenwinkel to go behind the plate to add some depth to the battery. Rosenwinkel then attended an exposure camp in Buffalo this Fall as a catcher and was spotted by the NU coaching staff. Rosenwinkel hit .357 for the Red Barons last season and collected 7 doubles. Rosenwinkel is on course to graduate from Corning CC in May with an A.S. in Liberal Arts.
Rosenwinkel is the second baseball player in as many years to accept a Division I baseball scholarship after completing their degree at Corning Community College. 2011 graduate and pitcher Matt Holling is currently on the roster at Hofstra University.
