The Corning men's basketball team played stifling defense and controlled the boards in the second half to earn a 66-61 win over North Country CC on Saturday. The game remained close throughout and NCCC tied the game with 5-minutes to play after being down by 7 points but the Red Barons hit key free throws, grabbed some timely rebounds and limited the Saints to some huge one-shot posessions down the stretch. Corning also shared the ball well as 23 of their made field goals came off of 16 assists.
Four Red Barons reached double-digits. Shawn Wedderburn played his best game to date as he scored 16 points and grabbed 15 boards. Efrain DeJesus scored 14 points and recorded 3 steals, Devin Cooper added 11 points and Tyler Collins scored 10 and dished 8 assists.
Corning improves to 3-0 on the season and will host Clinton Sunday for a 2pm tip-off.
