The Corning Community College men's basketball team had another great team performance as they defeated visiting Hudson Valley CC 87-73 on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Barons came out strong and took a 46-36 lead into the half but they would need to withstand two big runs by the Vikings to hold on for the victory. The Vikings came into the second-half firing on all cylinders as they went on a 12-point run to start the second-half of play and took the lead five-minutes into play. Corning answered and went up by 8 but HVCC would make one more run and close within two with 10-minutes remaining. Corning then took command and was in the driver's seat for the remainder of the game.
Six Corning players scored in double-digits led by Ramel Powers scoring 16 coming off the bench. Shawn Wedderburn had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Foster Clark scored 12 points, grabed 9 boards and dished 5 assists. Efrain DeJesus added 11 points, Bernard Edwards was also solid off the bench providing 10 points and 6 rebounds while Tyler Collins scored 10, grabbed 5 rebounds and had 5 assists. Corning shot 51% from the field.
The men improve to 7-1 overall and are on the road this weekend to close out the semester. The Red Barons will square-off with Schenectady CC on Saturday and then face Columbia Greene CC on Sunday.
