The Corning Community College men's basketball team won in dramatic fashion Tuesday evening at home to end Finger Lakes CC season 60-57 and propel the Red Barons into the NJCAA Region III Final Four for the second time in the past three seasons.
Corning held leads by as many as 12 points in the second half but the Lakers kept things tight by capitalizing on some Corning turn-overs to close the gap slowly. Three consecutive trips down the floor resulted in zero points on the home side of the board but translated to FLCC baskets. FLCC cut the Red Barons lead to 7 points with a little over three minutes to play and then cut it to one point with :30 seconds remaining. Foster Clark stepped ot the line and converted two free throws to extend the lead to 60-57. FLCC had the ball with 6.2 seconds left and took a long shot that hit the back of the iron to end the game.
Shawn Wedderburn led the way with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Devin Cooper scored 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists while Tyler Collins scored 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Bernard Edwards, Zeron Bratcher and Foster Clark all scored 6 points.
Corning improves to 20-5 and will face top-seeded Onondaga CC, at OCC, at 5pm on Saturday. The winner advances to the Region III Championship Game Sunday at 6:30pm.
