A total of seven Red Barons competed in the Region III Bowling Tournament last weekend in Utica, NY, but it was freshman Kayla Coolbaugh that rose to the top.
Coolbaugh averaged a 182 on the day and finished 6th overall; good enough to qualify for the NJCAA National Bowling Championship in Buffalo, NY on 2/28/14 and 3/1/14. Coolbaugh also paired with Natasha Evans in the doubles competition and earned 4th place while she finished 6th in singles and teammate Taylor Decker took 9th in the singles competition.
On the men's side of the Region III Tourney, Corning's Chris Potucek and Joe Sigg finished 5th in doubles while Korey Kennedy averaged a 183 to finish 24th in the singles event. Sigg finished 18th overall with a 185 average while Potucek finished 25th overall with a 179.
Coolbaugh is the lone Red Baron to qualify for the 2014 National Championship Tournament. The last time the Red Barons participated in this event, Kaylin Grannis and Samantha McAtee came home as the 2012 Doubles National Champions.
