The Corning Community College men's soccer team hosted Dutchess Community College Sunday in their season opener and came away with a 3-2 win.
Fifteen minutes into the match, Caleb Johnson found the back of the net off a corner kick from Gabe Smith to give the Red Barons their first goal of the season. Four minutes later, Likonga Molingou scored as he ran down a ball sent long by Jonathan Kimmett and Corning extended the lead 2-0. Dutchess would change the halftime momentum as the got on the board with 1:15 left in the half on a chip shot over Corning keeper Rhett Seeley.
Molingou scored his second goal of the day 9 minutes into the second half thanks to a Peter Gerould assist up the side of the field and gave CCC a 3-1 lead. The Falcons would not go away as they answered back 3 minutes later, beating the keeper in the box to draw within one goal.
Neither team would score in the final 33 minutes and Corning held on for the 3-2 victory. Seeley came up big in goal numerous times in the final minutes and ended the game with 9 saves. Dutchess outshot Corning 14-10 on the day.
Dutchess falls to 1-1 on the season and Corning 1-0. The Red Barons will host Broome CC on Wednesday for a 4pm kick-off.
