Saturday afternoon the CCC men's soccer team wrapped up the 2016 campaign with a 1-0 victory at Fulton Montgomery CC. Plagued by injuries, the Red Barons pulled together and managed their best team effort of the season. According to first-year head coach Adam Robinson; "The boys left it all on the field, they played for each other and achieved a great collective effort victory. We did not quite reach the goal the boys set at the beginning of the season to be .500, but finishing with a record of 6-0-1 is a vast improvement; doubling the wins we had a year ago."
Saturday's game was especially important to the Red Barons who tied Niagara CCC 1-1 on Wednesday as the men weren't able to complete OT as they ran out of daylight. At FMCC, Corning keeper Josh Harrison was heroic in the early minutes of the match. "Josh made a great PK save in the 32nd minute that brought some real confidence and energy to the team." Four-minutes after that PK denial, Likonga Molingou found the back of the net off a Gerald Maher rebound. The Red Barons then went to work to find a brace. The defense was anchored by Josh Carpenter, Jon Fleming, Junior Coulibaly and Robbie Weiskopf held their opponents to nine shots. Midfielders Sam Nunez, Jose Garcia, Logan Brimmer, Steiner Dalton and Henry Sweeney had excellent games on both sides of the ball, contributing to the team-win. Rocco Coulibaly tested the Raiders often and provided the Red Barons with multiple scoring oppotunities for teammates with his ball distribution. "Without the collective effort we would not have achieved the result; it was a great 90-minute performance where everyone stepped up and bonded together. I was proud of the effort and teamwork the boys displayed. It was a great culmination to our season."
