Softball Splits With Genesee CC
The CCC softball team hosted Genesee CC Thursday afternoon in a Region III doubleheader. Corning took game one 8-2 before dropping the nightcap 7-10.
The CCC softball team hosted Genesee CC Thursday afternoon in a Region III doubleheader. Corning took game one 8-2 before dropping the nightcap 7-10.
In game one, Mollie Peck doubled and hit a homerun in her 3 for 4 performance while Brittany Ladd went 2 for 4 and collected 4 RBI's. Sammi Moffe had a solid all-around game as she went 2 for 4 at the plate with an RBI and in the circle tossed a 3-hit, 7 strikeout win, allowing no earned runs.
Game two saw the Genesee bats come to life as they put four runs on the scoreboard in the top of the 1st inning. The Red Barons took a 7-6 lead into the 5th inning, but a 4-run 6th inning by GCC put the game out of reach for Corning as they couldn't push another run across the plate in the final three innings. Aja Gosper smacked a double with 2 RBI's while Becca Hendrickson and Ladd each hit double as well. Moffe entered the game in the middle of the 4th inning and took the loss.
Corning travels to Maryland this weekend to play and will face some tough Division II opponents and a four-year school. The Red Barons will be home again on April 11tha s they host Jamestown CC - Cattaraugus. First pitch is 3pm.
