The Mid-State Athletic Conference announced its 2013 All-MSAC softball team last week and the Red Barons were well represented. Corning's Aja Gosper took home the conference's biggest award as she was selected as the 2013 MSAC Softball Player of the Year. Teammates Mollie Peck, Sammi Moffe and Emily McCracken were also selected as voted upon by the conference coaches.
Gosper, a sophomore, hit .433 on the season with 10 extra base-hits and 22 RBI's. She was a perfect 13 for 13 in stolen bases and recorded a .557 on-base percentage. What set Gosper apart was her defense in centerfield. The speedy outfielder robbed numerous potential base hits and often times kept doubles to singles with her ability to track down the ball and get it back into the infield so quickly. Gosper becomes the 7th Red Baron in the past 10 years to earn this honor. She joins very prestigious CCC Softball company; Heidi Brooks ('04), Jenna Dart ('07), Brandi Hawk ('08), Megan Myers ('09), Liz Gorges ('10) and Holly Frampton ('11).
Peck, a sophomore shortstop, was an offensive monster for the Red Barons lineup this season as she hit .446 with 17 doubles, 2 triples and 3 homeruns. Her 36 RBI's led the team as did her .743 slugging percentage.
Moffe, a sophomore infielder/pitcher was a defensive steady this season. In the circle, she went 8-6 with 1 save. She posted a 3.12 ERA allowing 102 hits in 92.1 innings of work while only walking 24 batters. When not on the mound, Moffe played the hot corner. Offensively she posted a .307 average with 8 doubles and 14 RBI's.
McCracken, a freshman outfielder, battled injury throughout most of the season but when in the lineup she made a huge difference for the Red Barons. She hit .308 with 23 runs scored, 7 doubles and 3 homeruns.
