On Monday, May 20, Corning Community College hosted its 9th Annual Red Barons Golf Classic Tournament at the Corning Country Club. This tournament serves as a fundraiser for Red Barons Athletics.
104 golfers and 50 volunteers enjoyed a sunny 80-degree day while joining forces to raise over $30,000 for CCC Athletics. In the last nine years, this tournament has raised well over $250,000. Golfers enjoyed not only a round of golf at the Corning Country Club but numerous on-course activities including long drive and closest to the pin contests, a team putting contest and hole-in-one prize packages ranging from $20,000 cash to a week long golf get-a-way and golf club sets. LPGA Professional Cindy Miller hit a tee-shot with each team on Hole 15 and posed for a team picture that each participant took home. Teams were met on the #7 green by CCC President Dr. Kate Douglas as she putt with each team and presented each of them with a "president's gift" to show her appreciation for their participation. The evening ended with a steak and chicken dinner and door prizes for all golfers. There were Top 10 prizes awarded that included an iPad, GPS, 32" HDTV and a Stay and Play Package for Greek Peak valued at $1,250.
On behalf of the athletics staff and student athletes at Corning Community College, thank you to all the generous sponsors, participants and volunteers who made this such a special day. It was truly another "great day to be a BARON!"
