The Corning Community College softball team split a doubleheader today at Monroe Community College, dropping game one 8-0 and bouncing back in the nightcap to win 9-0. Game one saw Corning commit some costly errors early and the Red Barons couldn't come up with a timely hit, leaving the bases loaded twice and runners on first and second twice. Haley Williamson was 2 for 3 with a double and Sam Mennig doubled.
Game two the Baron bats came to life and Corning scored in each inning, earning the 9-0 win. Williamson stayed hot going 2 for 3 again while Sam Hauck knocked in 3 runs. Yvonne Hartridge picked a great time to hit her first collegiate homerun as she blasted a grand slam over the left field fence in the bottom of the 4th inning. Angie Frampton threw a two-hitter and struck out nine.
The win gives Corning head coach Stacy Johnson her 500th career win in her 20th season. Johnson's career record is now 500-181. The only other Corning CC coach to reach this milestone was the late Wayne Kenner, who finished with 511 career wins, after 29 years at the helm of the men's basketball program.
Corning travels to Cayuga CC Sunday for a MSAC and Region III matchup with the Spartans. First pitch is 1pm.
