In the semester and MSAC (Mid-State Athletic Conference) opener, the CCC women defeated visiting Cayuga CC 66-55 Thursday night. Solid defense and efficient shooting helped Corning post a 35-24 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
The Barons came out of the blocks on the run in the second half as Marissa Pike, Mollie Peck and Sarah Dickson pushed the Barons lead to 51-35 with 10 minutes to play in the contest. The CCCC defense outmuscled Cayuga as the Spartans were limited to one shot nearly all night long and never scored on consecutive possessions until there were five-minutes left in the contest. Corning was clutch down the stretch as ten of their final twelve points came from the charity stripe. Marissa Pike netted 21 points on the evening while Mollie Peck added 20. Sarah Dickson scored a career-high 12 and Chelsea Lehman chipped in nine. Peck and Dickson also added 10 rebounds each for the Barons.
Corning will visit Onondaga CC on Saturday afternoon and then host North Country CC at home on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for noon.
