Red Barons Faced Tough MSAC Competition

The Red Barons women faced a tough schedule to open conference play with five games in a ten day stretch. After beating Cayuga CC and falling to Onondaga CC, Corning faced Tompkins-Cortland, Finger Lakes, and Jefferson this past week.

On Tuesday, 1/16/18 Corning faced TC3 at home, the women had a strong opening quarter as they led 12-8, however, in the remaining 10 minutes of the half the Panthers out scored Corning to take a 32-18 lead into the half. The game proved to be a hard-fought contest with TC3 coming out on top by a score of 58-40. Taylor Sutryk had a team high 17 points and 10 rebounds, Emily Smith contributed 12 points and 7 rebounds for the Red Barons.

Thursday, 1/18/18 the Red Barons traveled to Canandaigua to take on Finger Lakes CC and did not have their best offensive outing. The Lakers led 19-8 after the first quarter and 32-18 at half-time, the final score was 75-39 in the home teams favor. Mackenzie Warner and Kiara Buxton contributed 11 and 10 points a piece respectively.

On Saturday 1/21/18 Corning hosted the Cannoneers of Jefferson CC. The Red Barons kept pace with Jefferson in the 1st quarter, however, a 9 point 2nd quarter offensively gave the Cannoneers a 12 point half-time lead. Corning stormed back with a 25 point 3rd quarter to pull with in 6 points of Jefferson but were unable to complete the comeback, falling 69-59. Kiara Buxton led the way with 27 points and 9 rebounds while teammates Emily Smith and Mackenzie Warner put up 11 points a piece and combined for 13 rebounds while dishing out 12 assists.

The Red Barons play again on the road at Broome CC on 1/24/18 and at Fulton-Montgomery CC on 1/27/18.
