Micelotta Named New Women's Soccer Coach
The Corning Community College Athletics Department has announced the hiring of Rich Micelotta as its new women's soccer coach, effective immediately. Micelotta replaces Mike Homer, who spent two seasons at the helm of the Red Barons before having to resign due to an increasing demand in his employment responsibilities.
Micelotta comes to Corning with a variety of experience in athletics and recreation. Specifically in the sport of soccer, Micelotta has over 20 years of soccer officiating experience and has coached CVSA (Chemung Valley Soccer Association) U16 teams. He spent twelve years as the commissioner of the YMCA Indoor Soccer League in Elmira and has worked numerous soccer clinics and camps. Micelotta also served as the General Manager and Assistant Coach with the Red Riders of the ABA (American Basketball Association).
Corning Director of Athletics and Fitness Services, Stacy Johnson, had this to say about the acquisition of Micelotta: "I am very pleased to welcome Coach Micelotta to our Red Barons family. I am impressed with his energy and enthusiasm. His ties with the local soccer community will serve him well as he recruits. Rich seems very excited and determined to create a positive environment and to elevate the success of our women's soccer program."
When asked what he thought about the appointment, Micelotta seemed eager to get started. "I am thrilled for this opportunity. I am proud to be associated with Corning CC Athletics and to have the opportunity to develop the women's soccer program. My hope is to build a foundation for Red Barons women's soccer that will lead to success on and off the soccer pitch. This is an exciting time for CCC, and I am privileged to be a part of it."
The 2012 soccer pre-season practices begin on August 1 with the first contest on Saturday, September 1.
