Women's Soccer Defeats JCC-Olean 2-1
The Corning Community College women's soccer team posted a 2-1 victory over visiting Jamestown Olean CC Thursday afternoon on Spencer Hill.
The Corning Community College women's soccer team posted a 2-1 victory over visiting Jamestown Olean CC Thursday afternoon on Spencer Hill. Detta Gublo scored her first collegiate goal to get things going for the Red Barons. 25 minutes into the contest, Jocelyn Garrison threaded the ball up the middle past a streaking Olean defender and it found the foot of Gublo. Gublo took two touches and then blasted a shot to the low corner past the Jaguars keeper. CCC took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the 62nd minute of the contest, Garrison was next to strike as she gave the Red Barons a 2-0 lead on a breakaway courtesy of a long ball from midfielder McKayla Hutley. JCC-Olean pressed and continued to play hard as they made the game interesting, finally finding the Corning net with eleven minutes left on the clock. The CCC defense, led by Rebecca Hendrickson, stayed composed and was able to limit the damage to one, preserving the 2-1 victory. In net, Corning's Aja Gosper recorded 13 saves. Corning improves to 2-5 on the season with the win. Next up for the Red Barons is Jamestown CC who will visit Corning on Sunday, September 23. The women's contest (noon) is the first game of a doubleheader with the men (2pm).
