Women's Soccer Defeats Niagara CCC 3-1
The Corning women's soccer team finally clicked offensively and posted a 3-1 victory against visiting Niagara CCC Saturday atop a chilly Spencer Hill.
The Corning women's soccer team finally clicked offensively and posted a 3-1 victory against visiting Niagara CCC Saturday atop a chilly Spencer Hill. The first 9 minutes of the game belonged to the NCCC offense as they dominated play and pounded 10 shots at Corning keeper Aja Gosper. Finally, Corning shifted into high gear 9:56 into the contest as Colie Sutryk struck for the Red Barons on a pass over the top from teammate Abby Westbrook. One minute and 26 seconds later, Sutryk found teammate Jocelyn Garrison on a perfect thread pass and Garrison pounded the ball past a diving NCCC keeper to give the Red Barons a 2-0 lead. Garrison extended the lead 3 to nil as she scored again with less than 5 minutes left before the break. The CCC first-half attack was precise as they touched the back of the net 3 times on only 5 shots.
The second half continued to see NCCC take numerous shots but Gosper was stellar in goal turning away 13 shots on the afternoon. The Thunderwolves finally were able to beat Gosper 66:43 into the game as Samantha Costanzo scored on an assist from Alana Humphrey. Niagara outshot Corning 29-18 in the contest. Corning improves to 3-9 on the season.
