The Corning Community College women's soccer team hosted Erie CC on a rainy Saturday afternoon atop Spencer Hill in what turned out to be the most exciting match of the season for both teams.
Erie CC jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first ten-minutes of playand looked to control much of the offensive tempo early on. Corning had limited offensive opportunities until fifteen minutes left to play in the first half. Jessica Hickey found the back of the net and tied the game at one thanks to a Lekysha Snyder assist. With under eight minutes to play, Snyder then found the net herself, with help from Deborah Diarra, to put the Red Barons up 2-1 heading into the half. CCC held that lead until Erie was able to beat the CCC keeper over the top with under 20-minutes remaining in the game. CCC had two scoring opportunities they couldn't convert and then with :16 remaining in the contest, a Red Baron goal, the game-winner, was waved off as a result of an offsides call off a deflected keeper save. The teams headed into overtime and Erie was able to make short work of the stunned CCC team as they ended the game a mere :18 seconds into play. Corning goalie RaeAnn Prestredge ended the game with 6 saves.
Corning has a much needed break and doesn't play again until September 23 when they host Onondaga CC for a 2:30 kick-off.
