Volleyball Loses Heartbreaker to Jefferson CC
In a match that saw 35 tie scores, the Cannoneers from Jefferson CC outlasted their hosts in a 5-game battle. Corning took an early 7-1 lead in game 1 as OH Mollie Peck was on fire and Chelsea Hutsick rattled of 6 straight service points.
In a match that saw 35 tie scores, the Cannoneers from Jefferson CC outlasted their hosts in a 5-game battle. Corning took an early 7-1 lead in game 1 as OH Mollie Peck was on fire and Chelsea Hutsick rattled off 6 straight service points. JCC came back to score 6 in row themselves and tie the game at 11. From that point forward, the match saw 5 ties and the biggest lead was JCC 23-20. The Red Barons rallied and scored the last 5 points to take G1, 25-23.
In G2, Corning scored the first point of that match to take the 1-0 lead and never saw the lead again until 20-19. Tied at 23, JCC managed to score 2 straight and take the 25-23 victory.
In G3, Jefferson ran away with a 25-14 win. The match was close at 10-9 but the Cannoneers pushed the lead 15-12 and never looked back, scoring 10 of the last 12 points of the set.
In G4, the closest of them all, there were tie scores at 6,8,10,11,12,13,18,21 and 22. Corning pulled out a narrow 15-13 lead but then JCC took the lead again at 21-20. The Red Barons were up 22-21, then 23-22 before scoring the last 2 points of the game to win 25-23.
Game 5 saw ties at 1,2,4,5 and 6 until JCC was able to pull ahead 9-6 and never let the game get closer than that. The Cannoneers won 15-11.
On the day, Corning's Mollie Peck recorded 18 kills while Katie Dunning collected 14 kills. Peck and Dunning were also defensive standouts as they combined for 15 total digs. Chelsea Hutsick handed out 38 setter assists and had 9 service points. Gina Parillo led the team with 11 service points and had 5 digs as well.
Corning is home Wednesday, September 12 at 6pm as they host a MSAC Conference match against Tompkins Cortland CC.
