Volleyball Goes 2-1 on the Weekend
The Red Barons volleyball team went 2-1 in crossover matches at Broome CC this weekend. The Barons opened the day with their backs against the wall in having to win the last two-staight games to take the match from Mohawk Valley 25-23, 23-25, 16-25, 25-15 and 15-13.
The Red Barons volleyball team went 2-1 in crossover matches at Broome CC this weekend. The Barons opened the day with their backs against the wall in having to win the last two-staight games to take the match from Mohawk Valley 25-23, 23-25, 16-25, 25-15 and 15-13. Up next was SUNY Delhi who jumped out to a 16-25 victory in game one. Suddenly, the Red Barons were awakened by the Broncos and went on to convincingly win the next three sets by scores of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-12. Herkimer CC sent Corning home with their only loss of the day by beating the Barons in three-straight; 24-26, 17-25 and 12-25.
Corning's Mollie Peck was on fire all day. The sophomore collected 44 kills on the day and recorded 6 huge blocks. Chelsea Hutsick dished 80 setter assists and contributed 19 service points. Defensively, libero Sammie Moffe was outstanding on serve receive. She was responsible for setting up numerous offensive plays with her consistant and accurate passes. Gina parillo led the team in digs to steal what looked to be sure points from the other side of the net. Parrillo also led the team in service points with 31; with 26 of those coming against one opponent, and 14 kills.
Corning is now 6-7 overall, 5-4 in Region III action and 2-1 in the MSAC Conference and next travels to SUNY Adirondack to face ACC, Fulton Montgomery CC, Hudson Valley CC and Columbia Greene CC on September 22.
