Volleyball Falls in Regional Pool Play
The Red Barons volleyball team started off the Region III Tournament doing something very few could do this season; beat #1 ranked Niagara CCC. Not only was Corning able to defeat the Thunderwolves, they did so in one of the most exciting games to be played in tournament history. NCCC won set one 25-27 while Corning bounced back to take set two 25-22. Set three was one to remember as it took 70 points to decide a winner. With the entire gymnasium on their feet, CCC battled to a 36-34 win. Chelsea Hutsick stepped up for CCC as she served 17 service points, recorded 7 kills and tallied 32 setter assists. Mollie Peck had 16 kills and Evelyn Caceres had 10 kills and 3 blocks for the Barons.
Game one took an emotional and physical toll on Corning as they seemed to use all their energy in the marathon. The Red Barons dropped the next three- game match to Alfred State 16-25,20-25 and 8-25. corning next faced MSAC Champs Jefferson CC and again fell in three; 13-25, 17-25 and 15-25.
Red Barons freshman setter Chelsea Hutsick was selected to the All-Tournament team. Corning finishes the season 18-21. Niagara CCC, Jefferson CC, Jamestown CC and Monroe CC advance to Sunday's semi-finals.
