Volleyball Wins Four Games; Improves to 14-2

The Corning Community College volleyball team captured four big Region III victories this weekend and pushed their record to an impressive 14-2 overall. 

The Red Barons faced SUNY Adirondack, Hudson Valley CC, North Country CC and Columbia Green CC on a long day of volleyball Saturday at Broome CC.  In their first match against ACC, Corning looked impressive as they took game one 25-11 but the Timberwolves wouldn't go away quietly as game two was 26-24 and ACC took game three 23-25.  The see-saw battle continued into game four but the Barons were able to pull out the 26-24 win.  Angelena Maio came up big as she recorded 12 kills and had 15 digs, both team highs.  HVCC was next and the Barons took three-straight 25-8, 28-26 and 25-8.  Amber Edwards had 12 kills and 3 solo blocks.  Next up was NCCC and CCC won in three-straight by scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-10.  Whitney Hauptman had 18 assists, Maio 8 digs and Jordan Raupers and Angie Frampton each added 8 kills.  Against CGCC, the Barons were able to earn the victory in three-straight, 25-6, 25-9 and 25-9.  Kaitlyn Weaver had 9 kills and Raupers had 14 assists. 

On the day, Weaver ended with 23 kills, Raupers had 25 kills, 67 assists and 11 aces, Maio 25 kills and 32 digs, Edwards 33 kills and 8 blocks, Frampton 24 kills and Hauptman 59 assists. 

Corning faces Region III's #1 team, the Monroe CC Tribunes, at home on Thursday, October 1 at 7pm.
