The Corning Community College volleyball team had gone through the MSAC (Mid-State Athletic Conference) without losing a game this season. It only seemed fitting that they would run through the MSAC Championship Tournament without losing a set. The Red Barons faced OCC in the semi-finals and defeated the Lazers 25-23, 25-18 and 25-14. Amber Edwards led the Corning offense with 10 kills and also posted three blocks. Angie Frampton was efficient as she went 7 for 11 in kills and added 3 blocks. Defensively, Kaitlyn Weaver recorded 10 digs as teammates Sarah Heveland, Jordan Raupers and Sammy Mennig each had 8 digs.
In the other semi-final game, Jefferson CC beat Broome CC 25-22, 25-21 and 25-17.
Jefferson, the defending MSAC Champs, were hoping to knock the Barons off in their home court but Corning would have none of that. CCC jumped out early and came away with a strong game one 25-16 win. Set two saw Corning keep control of the match and take another one by the score of 25-16. While closing in on the MSAC Crown, the scrappy Cannoneers would not back down. Jefferson controlled the set early and had the lead until the Red Barons pulled ahead at 13-12. Again, JCC took the lead, pulling ahead 20-18 before the Barons put their foot on the gas and ran off with the 25-23 MSAC Championship victory.
