Volleyball and Basketball Standout Weaver Named Female Scholar Student Athlete of the Year

Corning Community College Athletics is pleased to announce the 2015-16 Benny Hunziker Female Scholar Student Athlete of the Year Award winner.  This award is named after long-time CCC professor and friend of Athletics, Harold "Benny" Hunziker.  His support of Red Barons Athletics, CCC student athletes and their academic success has been unwavering.  This award is giving annually to a male and female student athlete that displays excellence in the classroom as well as on the field of play.  They must display high moral character, act as leaders on and off the field and exude qualities that make CCC proud to call them Red Barons.

The female student athlete of the year award goes to Kaitlyn Weaver of Elmira.  Kaitlyn was a two-year starter for both the volleyball and women's basketball teams.  She was a member of the 2015 MSAC Conference Champion Volleyball Team and played a major role in the women's basketball team advancing to the MSAC Conference Finals and the team getting a bid to post-season play for the first time in three seasons.  This season as an outside hitter, she recorded 136 kills, 220 digs and 34 service aces.  On the hardwood she scored 7.7 points per game, grabbed 4.1 rebounds per game and dished 3.1 assists per contest.  Kaitlyn was a Presidential Scholar, graduated Cum Laude last weekend with a degree in Math & Sciences with a 3.61 GPA.

Aside from her athleticism and intelligence, she is one of the hardest-working and nicest young ladies you will ever meet.  She will be attending Binghamton University and will pursue a degree in Nursing.
