Dominant Pitching, Explosive Offense Fuel Sweep of Broome
Corning Community College combined dominant pitching with explosive offense across both games to secure a convincing doubleheader sweep over Broome.
Game 1
Corning Community College got the offense rolling early, as a sacrifice fly by Xaden Trevizo put them on the board in the bottom of the first inning.
The Red Barons then erupted for six runs in the second inning, helping them defeat Broome Community College 10–1. Trevor Reidy singled to score one run, Trevizo tripled to drive in two, Dylan Beam added an RBI single, Riley Dooley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in a run, and Nolan Jamison doubled to score another.
Corning added to its early lead in the bottom of the third inning when Thomas Cheplick doubled down the left-field line and Jordan Fiore followed with a single down the left-field line, each driving in a run.
Porter Hermon earned the win for Corning. The right-hander allowed six hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, while striking out three and walking one.
Corning totaled 12 hits in the game. Trevizo led the middle of the lineup with three RBIs, finishing 2-for-3. Beam, Fiore, and Reilly Wells each collected two hits.
Game 2
Broome jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. Michitti grounded out to bring in a run, and another run scored on a wild pitch. After holding the Red Barons scoreless in the bottom half, the Hornets added another run in the second to take a 3–0 lead.
The Red Barons responded in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run to left field by Joe Guisto, cutting the deficit to one. Corning then flipped the game in the third inning, scoring five runs on two hits to take a 7–3 lead. The biggest blow came on a triple by Beam, driving in three runs.
Corning put the game away in its final at-bats, scoring nine runs in the fourth inning to secure a 16–3 victory. Trevizo hit a sacrifice fly to score one run, Beam added an RBI single, Owen McBane singled to drive in two, Lucas Corey hit a three-run home run to left field, and Fiore was hit by a pitch to bring in another run.
Colin Klemann started for Corning, allowing two hits and three runs (one earned) over five innings. He struck out five and walked one.
Corning finished with 11 hits. Beam led the team with four RBIs, going 2-for-4 on the day. McBane and Beam each had two hits. The Red Barons also showed patience at the plate, drawing seven walks. Cheplick and Reidy led the team with two walks apiece.
The Red Barons will host Jamestown CC on Thursday, April 23, for their next game.
