CCC hosted Davis College Tuesday evening in a non-conference basketball doubleheader. The women's team fell 71-53 but the Red Barons men's squad earned their first victory of the 2012-13 season with a 77-73 win.
On the women's side, Marissa Pike netted a team-high 23 points and grabbed six rebounds as Mollie Peck continued to do a little of everything for the team as she scored 13 points, dished seven assists, grabbed nine boards and had two blocked shots. Chelsea Lehman was solid with seven points and eight rebounds while Sarah Dickson recorded her best outing of the year with six points and six rebounds. Davis was too much for Corning as the Red Barons had three players foul out of the contest, spoiling any hopes of a comeback.
Nick VanBrunt had a career-high night to lead the men's team. The freshman guard scored 13-points while shooting 5 for 7 from the field, dished four assists and recorded 2 steals. Markee Brown added 13 points and Malik Edwards netted 11 points. Defense late in the game was key to sealing the victory as Jerome Jones came up with two big steals in the last few minutes of play to secure the win.
Corning hosts Alfred State College on Tuesday, November 13. The women tip-off at 5pm, followed by the men at 7pm.
