TC3 Beats JCC-Olean; Corning Falls In Heartbreaker

In opening day action at the Tarantelli Classic, the TC3 Panthers hung on for a 79-69 win over the Jamestown Olean Jaguars. With the win, the Panthers advance to the Championship game that will be played at 1pm Sunday vs. the Twins of Columbia Greene. Tyseem Lyles led a balanced TC3 offense, scoring 22. In all, eleven Panthers scored. Jamestown Olean was led by Katrell Henry with 19 points and teammate Ryan Lollier finished with 17. JCC will play in the consolation game vs. Corning at 11 am Sunday.
In the nightcap, Corning jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first four minutes of the contest but the Twins wouldn't go away that easily. Columbia Greene went on a 27-11 run to end the half and take a five point lead into the locker room. Corning was finally able to catch the Twins and tie the game at 41 with 11 minutes remaining and from that point forward, neither team would enjoy more than a two point lead. Corning's Malik Edwards hit two free throws to tie the game at 50 with 34 seconds on the clock. In the next possession, CCC's Gladimy Saladin stole the ball and gave the Barons a chance to win with 18.3 left. A poor offensive possession by Corning handed the ball right back to CGCC, who was able to hit a running layup in the lane to take the 52-50 lead with 5.1 seconds. Corning again faltered and was not able to get a shot attempt off. Corning was led offensively by Malik Edwards with 13 points and teammate Markee Brown added 12 points. Will Griffin played solid defense, taking two offensive charges and recording 5 steals for Corning.
