Corning Men Defeat Cayuga CC in MSAC Opener
The CCC men's basketball team held on for a MSAC opening 63-51 victory against visiting Cayuga CC on Thursday evening at Kenner Court.
The Corning CC men's basketball team held on for a 63-51 victory Thursday evening at Kenner Court. The first half was a roller coaster ride for Corning as they came out of the gate and played very strong, running out to a 20-12 lead after ten minutes of play. The second ten minutes saw CCC shoot a miserable 1 for 15 from the field, allowing Cayuga to take a one-point lead into the locker room at the break.
The game stayed close for most of the second half until Corning was able to go on a little run with 5 minutes on the clock. CCC's Shawn Coppin and Markee Brown provided three-straight three-point plays to extend the Baron lead to eight. The Corning bench and effort on the boards was the difference in this game. Reserves Kenny Taylor and Antoine Polk combined for 19 points and an undersized Baron roster outrebounded the Spartans by double-digits. Markee Brown scored 16 points for Corning and grabbed nine rebounds while Gladimy Saladin scored 13 and grabbed eight boards. Corning ended the contest shooting 7 for 11 from the behind the three-point arc and 10 for 11 from the free throw line.
Corning travels to MSAC-rival Onondaga CC on Saturday and then returns home Sunday to square off with North Country CC in a 2pm tip-off.
