The Corning Community College softball team had a solid showing as they traveled to Maryland to play some Division II opponents over the spring break week.
Corning went 5-2 on the trip (7-2 overall) and belted 8 homeruns over the 7-game stretch. Maddie Gulich and Julianna Gingrich each had two while Makenna Dunbar, Ashlyn Courson, Dominika Diaz and Erika David hit their fist collegiate homeruns. The Corning offense scored 78 runs during the seven-games. To date, the team is hitting .383 on the season with a .470 on-base percentage and .562 slugging percentage. Defensive play was also solid considering it was the team's first time taking ground and fly balls on a softball field this season. There were lots of bright spots and the team showed some grit and lots of energy that all point to the Red Barons being highly-competitive once again this season.
Corning returns to the diamond Sunday, March 22 as they travel to play Division II Lackawanna College in Scranton, PA.
