Softball Goes 4-0 on the Weekend
The Corning Red Barons softballl team had a big weekend as they went on the road to sweep Herkimer Saturday by scores of 10-6 and 16-4 and then hosted SUNY Adirondack on Sunday at Greenlight Grand Slam Park in Binghamton where they earned 13-2 and 14-7 wins.

Game One vs. Herkimer - The Red Barons scored in 6 of the 7-innings played and spoiled the Generals opening game at their new turf stadium. Makenna Dunbar went 4 for 5 with 2 towering homeruns while Eliza Lane was 3 for 4. Raven Gonzales and Stella White were 2 for 4 and Ashlyn Courson recorded 2 hits. Erika David also hit a Baron Bomb. Chloe Perritt scattered 11 hits over 7-innings, allowing 3 earned runs and striking out six.
Game Two vs. Herkimer - Corning scored in all four-innings they hit, blowing the game open with a big 7-run second inning. Dominika Diaz was 4 for 4 and Julianna Gingrich was 2 for 2. David was 3 for 4, Marlee Stanton 2 for 3, and Dunbar 2 for 4. Six Red Barons collected RBI's and all nine batters in the lineup had a hit. Kailey Gardner allowed 5-hits and 2 earned runs in 5-innings of work from the circle in the Corning 16-4 victory.
Game One vs. Adirondack - Corning scored 5-runs in the bottom of the 1st-inning and never looked back as they secured a game one 13-2 win. Courson and Dunbar were each 2 for 3 with Dunbar and Lane each notching 3 RBI's. Perritt threw 4-innings allowing one earned run and Nirvana Cole retired the last three Adirondack batters to complete the 5th-inning and secure te 13-2 win.
Game Two vs. Adirondack - The Red Barons jumped out to a 11-0 lead after 3.5 innings but a costly Corning error allowed ACC to score 5 in the bottom of the 4th and erased almost half of the Corning lead. Corning only allowed 2 more runs the rest of the game to come away with the 14-7 win. Courson stayed hot and went 3 for 4 with two doubles as Diaz, Dunbar and Maddie Gulich all went 2 for 4. Gingrich hit a big homerun in a pinch-hit appearance in the 6th-inning. Gardner went five-innnings and Perritt stepped in to close throwing 2 scoreless innings and collecting 4 strikeouts.
The #6 nationally-ranked Red Barons improve to 19-4 overall and 11-1 in Region III play. Corning will host MSAC and Region III opponent Finger Lakes CC on Tuesday, April 21 at home for a 3pm doubleheader.
