Stacy Johnson Collects Career Win 750
Stacy Johnson, SUNY Corning Community College's softball coach, reached another milestone in her illustrious career with the Red Barons on Thursday, April 23, earning the 750th win of her coaching tenure at SUNY CCC.
Now in her 29th season guiding the Red Barons in 2026, Johnson led the team to a pair of road victories over Tompkins Cortland Community College, winning 10–0 and 5–2.
"750 is a big number but it represents way more than wins," said Johnson. "It speaks to the volume of young women that have participated in this program and worked so hard to be better softball players, students and people."
Over the years, Johnson has solidified herself as one of the elite coaches in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) history. She currently ranks among the top 20 active coaches in the NJCAA in all-time wins and is one of only two Division III coaches to appear in that group.
"Coaches don't win games, players and culture wins games," Johnson stated. "I am proud of the culture we have all built here but mostly proud of the young ladies, and assistant coaches, that have carried on that culture and represented our program over the years. Together, we have built something to be proud of and the outpouring of messages I received yesterday from my "Forever Barons" is a testament to the family we have built."
A 10-time NJCAA Region III Coach of the Year and a 14-time MSAC Coach of the Year, Johnson has built a remarkable record of developing student-athletes. Throughout her career, she has coached 66 NFCA All-Americans, 45 NJCAA All-Americans, 19 MSAC Players of the Year, 11 Region III Players of the Year, four Region III Female Athletes of the Year, eight NFCA Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners, three NJCAA National Players of the Year, and one NJCAA National Pitcher of the Year. In addition, 34 of her student-athletes have continued their playing careers on scholarship. "Wins are nice, but the support system and family we have built is what truly matters," added Johnson. "More than wins, I hope these young women have taken away a sense of belonging, feelings of accomplishment, discipline, and a work ethic that reaches far beyond the playing field. No one accomplishes anything alone, we did this together!"
The 2026 edition of the Red Barons is once again positioned for a postseason run, heading into the final week of the regular season with a 23–4 overall record. The team is a perfect 7–0 in conference play and 15–1 against regional opponents.
The Red Barons return to action on Sunday, April 26, with a road doubleheader at Genesee Community College. Following another road series on April 28, the Red Barons will return to Spencer Hill for a home doubleheader against Erie Community College on Thursday, April 30, beginning at 3:00 pm.
