Softball Claims MSAC Conference Championship
The Red Barons claimed the 2026 MSAC Conference Softball Title with a sweep of Onondaga CC on the road Tuesday.
The Red Barons claimed the 2026 MSAC Conference Softball Title with a sweep of Onondaga CC on the road Tuesday. Corning won game one 7-3 and completed the sweep with an 8-4 game two win.
Game One - Corning fell behind in the third-inning 3-2 before the offense and defense fired up. The Red Barons scored 2 in the 5th and added 3 more runs in the top of the 6th to take and hold the lead as the defense shut down the OCC offense by not allowing a run in the 4th, 5h, 6th and 7th innings. Erika David and Raven Gonzales each went 2 for 4 with David hitting a monster homerun in the 6th. Chloe Perritt was efficient in the circle scattering 9 hits and collecting 5 strikeouts.
Game Two - The Red Barons entered the bottom of the fourth inning down 2-1 and exploded for four runs to take a 5-2 lead. Makenna Dunbar led off with a big double to start the rally. Stella White plated 2 runs with a triple to the gap and Dominika Diaz plated two runs with a huge two out single. The Lazers bounced back to score two runs in the top of the 5th to close the Corning lead to one but Corning scored three more in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of hits by Ashlyn Courson, Diaz and Marlee Stanton. Pitcher Kailey Gardner and the Corning defense held OCC to one hit in the 6th and 7th to secure the win.
Corning claimed the MSAC Conference Title with a 10-0 conference record. Currently, the Red Barons are 19-1 in Region III play and 27-4 overall.
