The Corning Red Barons had an eventful weekend at SUNY Niagara, coming away with a split.
Match one was a tense 5-set battle with Erie ultimately coming out on top. Maggie McClaren led the team with 9 kills, followed by Lindsay Stratton with 8, Kayleigh Fusare and Adrianna Calbi tying with 7 kills each. Meleah Kohberger controlled the offense with 33 assists. Lindsay Stratton racked up 6 aces and Meleah Kohberger added 3. The Red Barons had 5 players hit double digits for defense; Madisen Jones led with 20 digs, followed by Kayleigh Fusare with 17. At the net Adrianna Calbi held up with 2 solo blocks and 3 block assists.
Bouncing back from a 5 set-loss, the Red Barons held Niagara and won in 4. The offensive range was spread nicely, Adrianna Calbi leading with 10 kills, Maggie McClaren with 8, and Madisen Jones and Lindsay Stratton each with 6. Meleah Kohberger held strong offensively and defensively, with 32 assists and 22 digs. The Red Barons defense yielded strong results, Breanna Jorritsma leading with 29 digs, with 4 more teammates hitting double digits. Adrianna Calbi and Maggie MCClaren each added 1 solo block. Finally the team served strong, Adrianna Calbi adding 6 aces, followed by Meleah Kohberger with 4.
Corning will play their final round of regular season matches at home on Saturday, October 18th (12 PM and ~2PM) and Sunday October 19th (10 AM), versus Jefferson and Fulton-Montgomery Community Colleges.
